Mission Statement
The mission of the Region X Head Start Association is to advocate for children, families, and staff to improve their quality of life by:
- Providing training
- Providing opportunities for sharing common interests between the states in the region
- Advocating for services and programs to meet family needs
- Coordinating the efforts of the State Associations of Alaska, Idaho, Oregon, and Washington to influence national policy
The Functions of the Region X Head Start Association are to:
- Advise the Head Start Region X Office on common issues and concerns of the states in Region X
- Take an active role in coordinating National legislative advocacy that impacts Head Start programs
- Strengthen State Association roles in National legislative advocacy
- Encourage communication among states
- Actively represent the Region X states at the National Head Start Association
- Sponsor the annual Region X Head Start Training Conference
- Encourage states to increase the number of people who apply for scholarships/awards
Functions
- Advise the Head Start Region X Office on common issues and concerns of the states in Region X.
Activities:
- Generate resolutions and letters as issues emerge.
- Invite Regional staff to RXHSA meetings.
- Take an active role in coordinating National legislative advocacy that impacts Head Start programs.
Activities:
- Identify Regional Office issues for discussion and action.
- Provide electronic responds to proposed legislation.
- Encourage states to provide voter registration materials at State Association meetings to improve voter participation in the Head Start community.
- Strengthen State Association roles in National legislative advocacy.
Activities:
- Annually review legislative issues at summer meeting with States President and develop strategies for referral to NHSA.
- Take an active role in soliciting State Associations input on NHSA policy agenda.
- Encourage communication among states.
Activities:
- Develop communication system for RXHSA.
- Promote communication system for RXHSA.
- Maintain communication system for RXHSA.
- Actively represent the Region X states at the National Head Start Association
Activities:
- Maintain communication with the states of Region X to bring common concerns to NSHA Board meetings.
- Regional Board will decide on concerns/agenda items for RXHSA representatives to address at NHSA committees and board meetings.
- After each Regional Board meeting the Region X representatives will forward a letter to NHSA with concerns/agenda items to be considered at the next NHSA meeting.
- RXHSA National representatives will submit a written report to the Regional Board, which will be posted on the Web site
- Sponsor annual Regional Training Conference.
Activities:
- Board will oversee and approve Regional Training Conference planning.
- Encourage states to increase the number of people who apply for scholarships/awards.
Activities:
- Communicate with State Associations to inform when deadlines occur, when scholarships due.
- Ask State associations to appoint a person to coordinate the scholarship activities in each state.
- Review and determine Regional winners and forward to NHSA.
- Notify all applicants of the results.
- Acknowledge Regional winners at annual conference.
