  5. However, with the coming of the First World War, skirts underwent a massive change because women did not have so many maids to dress them up. There was a call for practical clothes, and in came sensible, uniform styles.

We’ve all fallen victim to bad fashion. Sometimes we go out looking dowdy or underdressed, sometimes we make the mistake of wearing jeans to a formal occasion. But you’ll be pleased to know that we’re not alone. Bad fashion is everywhere, and here we list some of the worst fashion fads in history, fads that even celebrities have fallen for!

  1. Those mega shoulder pads, which date back to the 80’s- we all thought that bigger was better, and some of us aspired to look like well-padded up quarterbacks! These shoulder pads were unattractive, tacky, and gave the impression that there were two small pillows on our shoulders!
  2. Ponchos, too. They didn’t suit anyone but thin-as-a-rake runway models. On most people, ponchos looked absolutely ridiculous, and some women complained that they looked like they were carrying around a tent.
  3. Spandex pants, which Olivia Newton-John made famous in ‘Grease’. Suddenly everyone was wearing them. These were styled like jeans, but fit really tightly. The result – you could almost see through to the cellulite and the wrinkles. Attractive? No way!
  4. The awful fashion trend of big hair – it looked totally comical, and when we see pictures of Dolly Parton with her beehive-like hair, we cringe, don’t we? That kind of style defied the law of gravity, and made the head look out of proportion.
  5. Those dreadful pants with writing on the back – stuff like “Hot” or “Wow” printed on the backside. No wonder lechers had a field day!
  6. Bellbottoms, too. Whatever possessed the 70’s people to wear them? The shape was odd, often they came in really ghastly colors, and most of the time, it looked so terribly tacky!
  7. Remember slap-on bracelets? We secretly hated them.
  8. Crocs – they’re still around, but why? They look really unattractive, rather like a blob of rubber stuck on your feet.
  9. Low-rise jeans, but just on people who can’t carry them off. Seriously, people, don’t let your hips and backside hang out. You should know whether you would look in this fit of jeans.
  10. And Lastly, another terrible fashion fad – harem pants. What was wrong with them? Too many pleats, too low-waist, and they just didn’t look good! Totally the wrong thing to wear to college or even to an office party.
